Brandon Lyon

Brandon Lyon took over as the closer in Arizona this season after the team traded away 40-save stud Jose Valverde to the Astros in the offseason.

He’s had one save opportunity thus far this year, and it didn’t really go all that well.

On Wednesday, Lyon came into the game in the bottom of the ninth against the Reds in order to attempt to save a 5-3 D-Backs lead.

The first batter he faced was Brandon Phillips, who singled.

The second batter was Adam Dunn. He singled too.

Then came Edwin Encarnacion. After Encarnacion actually blew his attempt to bunt the runners over, the manager gave him the green light, and he promptly smacked a three-run homer to end the ballgame!

Three batters, three runs, one blown save for Lyon, who is 0-for-1 on the year and subsequently gets the evil end of some Tough Love today.
