Vijay To Undergo Surgery - Just Not Yet

Well, it’s not exactly Tiger winning the U.S. Open on one leg, but Vijay Singh looks like he’s having knee issues as well.
However, even though Singh’s withdrawing from next week’s Sony Open, he still plans on teeing off tomorrow for the first round of the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
There’s no doubt Vijay’s the hottest golfer on the PGA Tour at the moment, and he’s the prohibitive favorite at Kapalua this weekend. At the age of 45, though, is he a sure thing to be back in five weeks?
Vijay’s in great shape, but targeting the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am just over a month away for a return seems like an extremely quick recovery.
The good news is the Tour’s keeping one of its marquee players for a season opening event that’s been scratched off the schedule of higher ranked players. The field contains several notable names, but having Vijay’s familiar face mixed in with the several newcomers will help the Mercedes grab the attention of some casual golf viewers.
One final thought: if his knee is causing him more pain than he’s letting on, then walking up and down the steep hills of Kapalua’s Plantation Course will be just as challenging as posting low scores.
