Jenson Brothers Charity Tennis Tourney Welcomes the “Love is Live Tour”

What do you get when you combine former doubles champions Luke and Murphy Jenson with comedian Jon Lovitz, Bush lead singer Gavin Rossdale, actors Chad Lowe and Eric Braeden and tennis pros Jennifer Capriati, Taylor Dent, Vince Spadea and Monica Seles?
A full day of entertaining tennis action, that’s what.
Nevermind the star power generated by the 13 Grand Slam titles amongst the pros, or the pair of Emmy Awards and dozen other nominations brought home by the celebs.
No, this was a show put on by the host Jenson Brothers, Spadea, Dent and Lovitz, who combined forces to entertain their dedicated audience throughout the afternoon.
The real winner of the benefit, of course, was the Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy for Down Syndrome, but the crowd was indeed winners as well.
The highlight for me was the commentary from the umpire’s chair, first manned by Lovitz and wrapped up by Dent. However, it was Murphy Jensen who stole the show, consistently ribbing Lovitz’s game, Spadea’s extra long locks and his brother’s scorekeeping ability.
The two lines that stuck with me were both courtesy of Murphy.
Commenting on Spadea during a particular point, Murphy exclaimed “Another little known fact about Vince Spadea ... he made over $40 million in earnings throughout his career, but somehow could never find time for a haircut!”
Or the clear winner, concerning Lovitz’s game: “Jon Lovitz to serve ... I don’t know how he does it folks. It’s not often you find a serving style these days that involves both no legs AND no arms! Amazing!”
Despite the unusually cold weather in Los Angeles on the day, the media turnout was strong and the spectators in attendance all seemed to get what they came for: watching a few of their heroes in action.
We want to thank the Jensen’s for inviting the “Love is Live Tour” out to the event. The Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy is a program designed specifically for children with Down Syndrome and currently conducts clinics in seven cities across the country (L.A., D.C., New York, Atlanta, St. Louis, Denver and Cincinnati).
