New Haven

Ah, Connecticut: Where egomaniacal parents have been destroying the dreams of innocent kids for generations.

From the land of Yale and Yachts comes this heartwarming tale about a nine year-old kid fireballer who lives to play baseball ... only, he can’t.

Roll the tape:

(Per ESPN.com)

“...Nine-year-old Jericho Scott is a good baseball player—too good, it turns out.

The right-hander has a fastball that tops out at about 40 mph. He throws so hard that the Youth Baseball League of New Haven told his coach that the boy could not pitch any more. When Jericho took the mound anyway last week, the opposing team forfeited the game, packed its gear and left, his coach said.

Officials with the Youth Baseball League of New Haven say they will disband Jericho Scott’s team because his coach won’t stop him from pitching.

Officials for the three-year-old league, which has eight teams and about 100 players, said they will disband Jericho’s team, redistributing its players among other squads, and offered to refund $50 sign-up fees to anyone who asks for it. They say Jericho’s coach, Wilfred Vidro, has resigned.

Jericho’s coach and parents say the boy is being unfairly targeted because he turned down an invitation to join the defending league champion, which is sponsored by an employer of one of the league’s administrators...”

It gets better. They’ve involved lawyers. They’re fighting this in court. Need we remind you that it’s little league?

Whatever the case, we know how this kid feels, man. Our friends stopped inviting us out to parties because we kept going home with all the girls.

Nobody, no matter the age, should be punished for being prodigiously talented at something they love. That’s how you get starving artists, emotionally fragile tennis players, and the Jackson family.

The kid deserves better. America deserves better. Land of the free, home of the just barely adequate.

Here’s a 40 mph fastball of TOUGH LOVE to New Haven Youth Baseball, the parents, the lawyers and the corporate sponsors for turning Little League into a circus, and crushing the dreams of a young child.

I don’t mean to cut the young man down but 40 mph at his age is average or below ! The people involved in trying to ban this child obviously know little about the game. If he were throwing 60 plus mph at that age then it could be an interesting story but this would be very embarrassing if this had my community on the news. No way this child should be banned. Somebody needs to do some quick research to see what is “average” for this age group and move out of the news.
