Penn State

Allow us to wax nostalgic for just a minute.

We have a huge soft spot for Penn State. We’ve visited multiple times and we very nearly attended there ... twice.

They’re not our favorite college football team (cough, Syracuse, cough [looks away in shame]), but PSU was the favorite of a couple of our best friends in high school and the alma mater of our high school / college sweetheart. Joe Paterno also bares an uncomfortable physical resemblance to our Papa, not that you’d know.

Ok, now that we got that sappy B.S. out of the way, how ‘bout them Nittany Lions!

Although known for their 45 points-per-game offensive juggernaut, it was the Heavy D at Linebacker U that made all the difference in Saturday Night’s conquest of Columbus. PSU forced two turnovers and limited one-time Heisman hopeful Beanie Wells to just 55 yards on 22 carries.

Penn State is now 9-0 and can harbor legitimate dreams of playing for a national title. Who’s going to stop them in the (caution: we’re a basketball conference now) Big Ten? Iowa? Indiana? It may all come down to a final rivalry-week showdown with suddenly plucky Michigan State to determine whether or not Penn State can earn the right to be crushed by a Big 12 or SEC team to be named later.

We’re just trying to lower expectations and not get ourselves too excited. You Penn Staters soak all this in and dream the big dream. You’ve earned it.

MAD LOVE to Penn State! We know you’re turning Prospect and Fairmont into a celebratory zoo tonight!

Aren’t you guys glad I argued with you about PSU being in the preseason top 25? haha. I had them SIXTH in mine!

I wouldn’t be too sure about them getting crushed. Paterno is long known for his bowl performances! They were supposed to get humiliated by the Hurricanes once, too. Besides… there’s no team in the country who cannot be beaten this year.

Ki-Jana Carter lives on!
