Please Help Siran Stacy

This story I’m about to tell you is one of the saddest I’ve heard in quite a long time. It made headlines one evening, then was gone a few days later.
Unlike most stories that usually completely vanish from my memory, this one just wouldn’t “go away.”
On Tuesday, November 27, former Alabama running back Siran Stacy was in one of the most deadly and horrific car accidents I’ve ever heard about. He was waiting at a light in Dothan, Alabama when a car traveling in the wrong lane ran a green light ripping through Stacy’s car, killing his wife and four of his five children. He and his three-year-old daughter, Shelly, were the only ones to survive the crash.
How does someone recover after such tragedy?
These are the questions I’ve been thinking about since I read this story. I have faith in a God above that loves us through every circumstance, big and small. Still, I’m still overwhelmed with emotion as I write this.
I remember how good Siran was when he played at Alabama. He was another phenomenal talent that didn’t cross over too well in the NFL. He had a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles before calling it quits.
He married his college sweetheart, Ellen, with whom he wed and started a new life in Alabama. From what I’ve read, he was a devoted father, man of God and described as “one of good guys.”
I can only imagine it’s going to be very hard for Siran to get back on his feet. Finding work, taking care of his daughter and emotionally grieving his loss will be the battle of his life. Donations have gone out to Siran, but I feel in my heart like he could use more help.
One of the things we’re trying to do here at The Love of Sports is to encourage our readers to give generously to those in need. I’m not talking just athletes, but rather organizations and individuals that have a specific need. I believe we were called to help one another, lifting another the best we can when life is coming down hard.
So, each month we’re going to encourage each and every person who reads and contributes to our site to give where you can to one of our selected charities. If it’s one dollar, I thank you. If you can afford more, you ROCK!
Please pray for a full recovery for Siran and Shelly, and that they’re getting the counseling to help them through this difficult period.
Thank you for having an open heart to a family that truly needs your help! Donations can be sent to this address:
